The link between behavioural risk factors and future smoking for both ex and current smokers is also unknown. This study sought to examine these relationships. It is hypothesised that behavioural risk factors will be more strongly associated with heavy smoking. Method: Data from Wave 7 (2007) of the Household and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey was analysed using logistic regression to determine relationships between diet (fruit and vegetable consumption, and unhealthy diet choices), alcohol consumption, obesity and physical activity with light-moderate smoking and heavy smoking. The association between these risk factors and future smoking (2008) was assessed for current and ex-smokers (2007). Results: Obese respondents were less likely to be light/moderate smokers (RRR: 0.53; 95% CI: 0.43, 0.66) but not heavy smokers. Those who consume confectionary weekly were less likely to be light/moderate smokers (RRR: 0.73; 95% CI: 0.61, 0.87), but not heavy smokers. Smokers in 2007 were more likely to continue smoking in 2008 if they consumed 1-4 drinks per occasion (OR: 2.52; 95% CI: 1.13, 5.62). Ex-smokers in 2007 were less likely to relapse in 2008 if they consumed recommended levels of both fruit and vegetables (OR: 0.31; CI: 0.10, 0.91). Conclusion: The relationships between heavy smoking and behavioural risk factors differ from moderate-light smoking. Especially in the long run, the decline of the safety, serviceability and durability of RC structures may be accelerated. Carbonation induced corrosion damage of RC infrastructure in Xiamen and Shaoguan under a changing climate is investigated for time period 2010 ~ 2100. The projection of atmospheric CO2 concentration, temperature and RH in both cities are based on the representative concentration pathways (RCPs). The time-dependent reliability analysis was conducted by Monte Carlo simulation and includes the uncertainty of dimensions, material properties, climate projections, and predictive models. The corrosion damage risks of RC structures are represented by the probability of severe cracking of concrete cover. Results show that climate change may increase mean carbonation depth by 8mm by 2100. Moreover, carbonation-induced damage risk for RC buildings in temperate areas can be increased by 12% ~ 19%. Life-time spinal pain, including low back, mid back, or neck/shoulder, was measured at age 17. We were interested in adolescent SP with impact (care seeking, medication use, school absenteeism, daily activity interference, leisure activity interference) and defined cases as SP with impact (one or more) or greater impact (two or more) impacts. We investigated the longitudinal associations between childhood psychological distress and adolescent SP using univariate and multivariable logistic regression models. Results: Psychological distress in childhood increased the odds of adolescent SP with impact by 33% (OR 1.33; 95% CI 1.01–1.76), but not spinal pain with greater impact (OR 1.22; 95% 0.83–1.80). Internalizing symptoms were associated with SP with greater impact and externalizing symptoms with SP with impact after adjusting for a range of potential child and family confounders. Conclusion: Psychological distress in childhood increases the risk of SP with impact in adolescence and may be a promising prevention target. Significance: Our findings provide evidence that psychological distress early in life is an independent risk factor for spinal pain with impact during adolescence. As psychological distress during childhood is potentially modifiable, it may be a promising target for research on the prevention of consequential spinal pain in adolescence. Identifying and addressing psychological distress in children may be an important component of best practice to reduce consequential spinal pain in adolescents.]]> Mon 07 Nov 2022 10:33:07 AEDT ]]> Online sperm donors: the impact of family, friends, personality and risk perception on behaviour https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:34039 Mon 04 Feb 2019 15:01:59 AEDT ]]> Considering pricing and uncertainty in designing a reverse logistics network https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49673 Fri 26 May 2023 15:49:51 AEST ]]> Probabilistic assessment of airblast variability and fatality risk estimation for explosive blasts in confined building spaces https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:42161 Fri 26 Aug 2022 07:50:35 AEST ]]> Risk and economic assessment of U.S. aviation security for passenger-borne bomb attacks https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:41297 Fri 23 Jun 2023 09:32:38 AEST ]]> Affect, risk and local politics of knowledge: changing land use in Narrabri, NSW https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:42213 Fri 19 Aug 2022 11:14:27 AEST ]]> "I don't think anybody really knows": constructing reflexive ignorance in climate change adaptation https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:37900 Fri 18 Jun 2021 11:07:03 AEST ]]> Risk-based assessment of blast-resistant design of ultra-high performance concrete columns https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:38590 -2 to 1 x 10-5 for explosive ordnance and terrorism blast scenarios.
