English migrants reported higher subjective quality of life than English non-migrants, and better physical health than the Australian-born, but their mental health outcomes did not significantly differ from the other cohorts. There were no significant differences in the odds of having either a HA or CDM or using allied health services for women with and without dementia indicators. Conclusions: The overall use of services designed to improve the prevention and coordination of the care of older people with chronic conditions was low. Women with dementia were no more likely to access these services. Implications for public health: There is underuse of some primary and allied healthcare services designed for people with complex chronic conditions. These could be better used by women with dementia to improve the management of complex comorbidities (e.g. CDMs), to prevent the onset of disability (e.g. physiotherapy), and enhance needs assessment and service access (e.g. HAs).]]> Wed 29 Mar 2023 15:32:41 AEDT ]]> Residential Medication Management Reviews and continuous polypharmacy among older Australian women https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43745 Wed 28 Sep 2022 10:50:57 AEST ]]> Prevalence and association of continuous polypharmacy and frailty among older women: A longitudinal analysis over 15 years https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43733 Wed 28 Sep 2022 10:43:58 AEST ]]> Frailty and potentially inappropriate medications using the 2019 Beers Criteria: findings from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43728 Wed 28 Sep 2022 10:37:11 AEST ]]> Food Insecurity and Functional Disability Among Older Adults in Ghana: The Role of Sex and Physical Activity https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:48238 Wed 28 Feb 2024 14:45:31 AEDT ]]> Diet quality and cancer outcomes in adults: a systematic review of epidemiological studies https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:26668 Wed 24 May 2023 11:37:26 AEST ]]> Gender, mental health and ageing https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:46434 Wed 23 Nov 2022 13:14:30 AEDT ]]> Prospective study of dietary zinc intake and risk of cardiovascular disease in women https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:32803 Wed 23 Feb 2022 16:05:34 AEDT ]]> Cervical cancer screening programs and guidelines in low- and middle-income countries https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:29679 Wed 17 Nov 2021 16:31:51 AEDT ]]> Chronic noncommunicable diseases in 6 low- and middle-income countries: findings from wave 1 of the world health organization's Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health (SAGE) https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:34696 Wed 17 Nov 2021 16:30:20 AEDT ]]> Early access to a cardio-oncology clinic in an Australian context: a qualitative exploration of patient experiences https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:53423 Wed 17 Apr 2024 14:39:15 AEST ]]> Dietary pattern, hypertension and cognitive function in an older population: 10-year longitudinal survey https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:36901 Wed 15 Jul 2020 19:31:42 AEST ]]> Community care in Australia https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43188 Wed 14 Sep 2022 08:51:39 AEST ]]> Common combinations of medications used among oldest-old women: a population-based study over 15 years https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43185  4 general practitioner visits (RRR 2.37; 95% CI 2.08, 2.71), Department of Veterans Affairs’ coverage (RRR 1.59; 95% CI 1.36, 1.86), ≥ 4 chronic diseases (RRR 3.16; 95% CI 2.56, 3.90) and were frail (RRR 1.47; 95% CI 1.27, 1.69). Two main outcomes were self-rated overall health and functional limitations based on the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 for a range of daily activities. Results: The largest urban-rural differences in adverse health outcomes were in Shandong (AORs for urban versus rural of 6.32 [95% Confidence Interval 4.53–8.82] for poor or very poor self-rated overall health and 5.14 [CI 3.55–7.44] for functional limitations), followed by Jilin (AORs 2.71 [CI 2.04–3.61] and 4.72 [CI 3.43–6.49]), and Hubei (AORs 2.36 [CI 1.82–3.07] and 4.11 [CI 2.80–6.04]), respectively. Covariates significantly associated with both adverse health outcomes were older age, poor income, no health insurance, and increasing number of chronic diseases. Conclusion: Our study reveals substantial disparities between urban and rural areas observed in both the welldeveloped areas (eg Shandong) and also the lower end of the economic spectrum (eg Hubei and Jilin). AF prevalence increased every year as women aged from 2.71% (95% CI 1.62%–3.80%) in 2000 among women aged 74–79 years to 24.83% (95% CI = 23.23%–26.44%) in 2015 among women aged 89–94 years. The incidence proportion remained constant (between 3% and 5%) throughout the study period. Sedentary lifestyle (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.04–1.49), hypertension (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.42), arthritis (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.09–1.41), heart attack (OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.18–2.24), and angina (OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.14–1.70) were independently associated with AF. Mean CHA2DS2-VA score for women with AF was 3.43 (SD ± 1.23). Conclusions: The prevalence of AF reported in Australian women is among the highest compared to previous estimations from other countries and regions. According to the findings, about one in four women over the age of 90 years had AF. These women were also at high risk of stroke. This has significant public health implications especially with changing demographics of increase in the aging population.
