First, we understand the word ethics to be focused on the way we seek to live our own life, and hence to connote a relativistic and essentially subjective perspective, whereas we understand the word morals to be focused on the way we should live our lives together, especially through sensitivity to viewpoints other than our own. Second, we perceive a usefulness in such a differentiation when the ethical values of those in a dilemmatic situation are conflicted in order to prioritize moral decision making in contemporary society. We argue that in our current era, characterized by a multiplicity of faiths and by pronounced value pluralism, a philosophical basis for moral decision making needs to be clearly attuned with intersubjectivity and interconnectivity among people. It should be able to determine principles of conduct toward others, no matter how one’s own ethical values, conceptions of the good, or life choices might differ from those of others. To do this, we relocate ethical decision making away from an essentially monological reflection on our own values and purposes into a social space wherein we have an inclusive, noncoercive, and reflective dialogue.]]> Thu 14 Mar 2019 16:49:45 AEDT ]]> Prevalence of tonsillar Actinomyces in children undergoing tonsillectomy for sleep disordered breathing compared with recurrent tonsillitis https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:8105 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:40:01 AEDT ]]> Management of congenital lingual dermoid cysts https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:9529 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:35:32 AEDT ]]> Hearing loss in Turner syndrome https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:7439 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:35:16 AEDT ]]> The moral philosophical challenges posed by fully implantable permanent pacemakers https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:20403 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:00:54 AEDT ]]> An unusual presentation of laryngeal paraganglioma: the first pediatric case reported in Australia https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:5085 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:48:52 AEDT ]]> Polysomnographic outcome of adenotonsillectomy for obstructive sleep apnea in children under 5 years old https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:5489 20). Whereas most of those studies employed molecular techniques, we used minor modifications of conventional microbiological methods to isolate and identify A. otitidis in samples obtained from 20/50 (40%) children referred for myringotomy. Alloiococcus otitidis was isolated from 10/22 (45%) Indigenous and 10/28 (36%) non-Indigenous children. This is the first report of isolation of A. otitidis from Australian children with chronic otitis media.
