The results showed that KMnO4 pre-oxidation achieved a slightly more effective Mn removal, and was almost unaffected by the initial dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations. PMS/Fe2+ removed UV254 more efficiently (above 90% at a dose of 0.25 mmol/L), compared with KMnO4 (less than 60% UV254 removal). According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of aggregates, both KMnO4 and Fe2+/PMS oxidation resulted in the formation of MnO2 precipitate. Electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR) analysis demonstrated that only the reactors dosed with PMS/Fe2+ were able to generate the highly reactive hydroxyl radical(·OH). The production of ·OH caused significant rupture of algal cells and thus higher algal removal compared to the treatment with KMnO4 (whereby insignificant cell breakage was observed). The cell rupture resulted in higher amounts of organic matter released in the systems containing PMS/Fe2+, as demonstrated by excitation-emission matrix (EEM) and protein analysis. Despite the elevated level of organic matter, adding PMS/Fe2+ was found to notably mitigate membrane fouling due to the formation of large flocs (311–533 μm) as well as the elimination of major ceramic membrane foulants, i.e. humic substances.]]> Wed 22 Mar 2023 17:30:46 AEDT ]]> High-risk emergency laparotomy in Australia: comparing NELA, P-POSSUM, and ACS-NSQIP calculators https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:40133 P = 0.07) or NRPC and ACS-NSQIP (P = 0.18). The performance results indicate ion-exchanged Ru zeolites, with extremely low Ru contents (~0.2 wt%), possess a high intrinsic HDO activity compared to the catalysts prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method. On the basis of TEM, FTIR, XPS and TPD analysis, the NH4+ ions in zeolite were substituted by Ru species, with metal particles entered the zeolite cages and finely dispersed on the support. These ion-exchanged Ru particles exhibit a strong electronic interaction with oxygen atoms of zeolite framework with a mixed Ru(0)-Ru(III) species observed in the reduced samples. In contrast, only Ru0 was detected in the reduced impregnated Ru/ZSM-5. The partial-reduced Ru species over the ion-exchanged Ru/ZSM-5 catalyst shows a high H2 adsorption activity facilitating the hydrogenation of guaiacol to the saturated products (such as 2-methoxycyclohexanol). On the south coast of Western Australia, depth distributions undergo an overlapping progressive gradation, from C. lineatus in inshore and nearshore shallow waters, to C. gerrardi and C. australis in nearshore deep waters, and then B. splendens and B. decadactylus in offshore deep waters. The main dietary categories of C. gerrardi change with increasing body size from crabs and isopods in small fish to teleosts in the largest fish, in which volumetrically they constituted >60% of the stomach contents. The wide range of teleost prey (at least 39 species from 33 families) ingested by C. gerrardi would be valuable to this species if continuing climate change or other anthropogenic effects lead to alterations in the composition of potential prey. Differences between depth distributions account for the fish prey of C. gerrardi comprising nearshore species, such as those of clupeids, congrids, pomacentrids and platycephalids, whereas those of B. splendens (from studies elsewhere) are dominated by myctophids, which are abundant in deeper waters. The combination of a large mouth and numerous, exclusively small teeth (edentulate morphotype) strongly suggest that C. gerrardi is a suction feeder adapted to engulfing larger prey. While the co-occurring and likewise commercially-fished Oplegnathus woodwardi also ingests substantial volumes of crabs and teleosts, its diet is distinguished from C. gerrardi by large volumes of poriferans and appreciable volumes of echinoderms, likewise reflecting feeding specialisations. In this study, stable isotopes of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur were used to determine the proportional contribution of primary producers to prawn nutrition in Brisbane Water (NSW). Both the saltmarsh grass Sporobolus virginicus and seagrass Zostera muelleri were found to support a high trophic contribution to prawns (up to 53% and 40%, respectively). The contributions of other primary producers such as mangroves, fine benthic organic matter (FBOM) and C3 saltmarsh plants were generally found to be much lower (0.7-15%). Such findings are generally consistent with patterns observed in other south-east Australian estuaries, however such a dominant role of saltmarsh in the presence of seagrass is a novel finding. These results highlight linkages between habitats of conservation concern and highly valuable fisheries species, and the benefit of using sulfur as an additional marker in Bayesian mixing models examining estuarine food webs.]]> Fri 22 Jul 2022 15:25:21 AEST ]]> Hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol over BEA supported bimetallic Ni-Fe catalysts with varied impregnation sequence https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:39742 Fri 17 Jun 2022 18:27:05 AEST ]]> Human health risk assessment through quantitative screening of insecticide residues in two green beans to ensure food safety https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:39741 Fri 17 Jun 2022 18:20:04 AEST ]]> Delivering hydrophilic peptide inhibitors of heat shock protein 70 into cancer cells https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:51722 Fri 15 Sep 2023 17:54:12 AEST ]]> Spheroidal forward modelling of the gravitational fields of 1 Ceres and the Moon https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:40608 Fri 15 Jul 2022 11:35:17 AEST ]]> A coupled fluid-elasticity model for the wave forcing of an ice-shelf https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:38077 Fri 11 Aug 2023 09:01:25 AEST ]]> Pre-stimulus alpha predicts inattentional blindness https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:39501 Fri 10 Jun 2022 14:53:22 AEST ]]> Economic Impact Assessment After a Natural Disaster Using DEMATEL Method https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49882 Fri 09 Jun 2023 11:46:31 AEST ]]> Biomechanical changes in myopic sclera correlate with underlying changes in microstructure https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:51507 Fri 08 Sep 2023 12:07:02 AEST ]]> Chemical methods to remove microplastics from wastewater: A review https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:54660 Fri 08 Mar 2024 10:56:33 AEDT ]]> Advanced in situ IR spectroscopy study of anisole hydrodeoxygenation over Ni/SiO2 catalysts https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:53581 Fri 08 Dec 2023 15:48:29 AEDT ]]> Representation formulae for higher order curvature flows https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:50200 Fri 07 Jul 2023 09:42:24 AEST ]]> Impacts of institutional child sexual abuse: What we have learned from research and the Royal Commission into Institutional Response to Child Sexual Abuse private sessions https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:41563 Fri 05 Aug 2022 14:30:21 AEST ]]> PARAGON: a phase II study of anastrozole in patients with estrogen receptor-positive recurrent/metastatic low-grade ovarian cancers and serous borderline ovarian tumors https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:45708 Fri 04 Nov 2022 10:18:27 AEDT ]]> Multiplicative orders of Gauss periods and the arithmetic of real quadratic fields https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:39325 −1 in a finite field by exploiting a link to the arithmetic of real quadratic fields.]]> Fri 03 Jun 2022 15:42:38 AEST ]]> Optimal cooling rates for sperm cryopreservation in a threatened lizard conform to two-factor hypothesis of cryo-injury https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49805 Fri 02 Jun 2023 16:59:49 AEST ]]>
