- Description
- Grit Salute explores the notion of ‘regional’ poetics as an alternative to national poetics, by focusing of specific regions (both within the national, and also beyond the national—such as the Asia Pacific). The poems in grit salute also engage with a style of ‘grunge poetics’, across both urban and rural place, breaking down the perennial divide between the city and the bush in Australian poetry and their attendant themes and assumed style. The sections 'triggering town' (written as part of a process of beta-testing the Wagga of my adolescence against contemporary Wagga from my hyper-educated, adult perspective) and 'Queen of the Hills' (poems written in China and India) are exemplary of the way I have realised these research themes poetically.
