Description: Simon Fitzpatrick was both a distinguished mathematician and a champion chess player. He was a senior lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Western Australia since 1991, and in 1999 was appointed an International Correspondence Chess Master by the International Correspondence Chess Federation based in Switzerland. On Saturday August 21 [2004] Simon Fitzpatrick lost his long struggle with cancer.
